The
American West holds a singular place in the
national imagination. From the time Lewis and Clark
first crossed the Continental Divide in 1805, the region
has been the crucible of heroism and heartache, of
manifest destiny, and of dreams both realized and
destroyed. The sweeping basins, thrusting
mountains, and mighty rivers of the interior
West are remarkable enough, but they are all the more
compelling when juxtaposed with the region’s rich human
history. For centuries, life in the West has been one of
hardship, yet people stay on, drawn by landscapes whose
very vastness seems to promise prosperity and
possibility.*
The Great
Western Trail project traverses the scenic heartland of
the American West and follows 4,455-mile corridor
through the States of Arizona, Utah, Idaho, Wyoming and
Montana. It incorporates stunning desert and canyon
landscapes, high plateaus, open woodlands, alpine
meadows and densely forested glades. Nearly half of the
entire trail and also the most developed parts exist in
Arizona and Utah.*
Our
2000 mile spectaculer journey travels
clockwise around the four corner points of Phoenix (AZ),
Soldier Summit (UT), Moab (UT) and Canyon de Chelly
(AZ).
Heading North,
the tour heels the Great Western Trail
Corridor from Phoenix, AZ to Soldier Summit,
UT. The magnificent ride includes some of the nation’s
most stunning natural marvels like the Grand
Canyon, Bryce Canyon, the Capitol Reef, not to mention
the National Forests and National Monuments that our
journey touches. After crossing the Scofield State Park
we turn southeast and reach Moab thorough the Arches
National Park. Heading back south, the ride exposes the
magnificent Monument Valley and Canyon de Chelly, the
last corner point. Here we set the compass to south-west
for the last section of the loop, which still banks
treasures such as the Petrified Forest, the Mogollon Rim
and the Mazatzal Mountains. |

Two thousand miles in distance and
eight thousand feet in elevation change will take you from
Saguaro cacti to tall pine forests, from places where human
history spans 10,000 years to towns that emerged in the recent
decades, you’ll see enough to pack the largest memory card you
can put in your digital camera. The roads are at least as
fascinating as the destinations they lead to. Broad sweepers
and tight switchbacks are alternating as our epic journey
travels through wide open vistas, thrusting mountains, deep
canyons, splendid lakes and mighty rivers of the interior
West.
