Cottonwood Road at Lake
Mohave |
 |
 |
Desert pyramids, lake views and
moonlike mountains await you in Arizona yes, you
read correctly. Seems unrealistic yes and the
views will take your breath away as you meander along on
your BMW GS. Your
adventure starts just north of the famous Route 66 town
of Kingman, make a left off of Route 93 and you’ll be on
Cottonwood
Road. |
| The road
starts off quite innocently enough, nice and
straight through a desert landscape and then when you
reach the peak it switchbacks down a steep
slope venturing through the Black Mountains.
As you reach the peak there will be a trail that brings
you to some stunning overlooks, the narrow road climbs
higher and higher into the sky until it reaches the top,
you’ll feel as if you could touch the clouds.
|
 |
 |
The views give way to
black rock peaks rising from the Earth protecting
the pastel hued canyons that they surround.
Upon returning back the trail and down towards Lake
Mohave you’ll be back in the dry desert terrain, which
makes the next vision even more surreal. The dry,
arid desolate composition of the land that you just left
will give way to a rocky sand beach and the glorious
lake. |
| You are
transported to an island paradise surrounded by sand
pyramids and lapping water, a perfect place to stretch
out and enjoy your lunch and to marvel in the beauty and
oddity which lies before you. |
 |
|
As always
in any back road adventure always check the weather
conditions, carry plenty of water, make sure your bike
is full of gasoline and tell someone where you are going
before you head out, better yet, go with a buddy and
share the experience! This ride is for the
well-experienced rider. |
|
The best way to learn about the diversity of
Arizona is to read the Arizona Highways Magazine, the reachly
illustrated, high quality monthly publication on the
beauty of the Grand Canyon
State. | |
